The mouse movement is available not only as /dev/input/mice data, but
also as /dev/input/event* interface (but the ruby-patched Xorg that can
actually use that is beyond BLFS). The main advantage is consistency
with PS/2 and USB setups. You run the "inputattach" program and forget
that the mouse is a serial one.
Also, the kernel does some interpolation of mouse data, so the cursor
moves more smoothly.
