Hi, ive just started the lfs project, and already I've hit problems
I may have just missed it, but where about should I bunzip and untar the
files for (like on the liveCD, you get the file
binutils-2.15.94.0.2.2.tar.bz2) so where do the extracted files need to end
up?
Short answer: Read the book!
the little bit longer answer: Read the damn book!!!
Rainer, as the PDF is over 250 pages (so one can assume there are a
similar number of HTML pages), a link to the relevant section of the
book wouldn't have been too out of place here, I don't think! This is
exactly the type of response that folks, unfortunately, have to deal
with in #lfs-support in IRC. I don't want that same attitude appearing
on the lists. If you think a particular question doesn't warrant an
answer (for whatever reason) then I'd rather you not respond at all
rather than respond in what could well be construed as a condescending
manner.
Dom, although the book's layout is slightly different from the last
official release (exactly because your question, or derivatives thereof
come up frequently)
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/view/development/chapter05/chapter05.html#ch-tools-introduction
when read in conjunction with the third paragraph on
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/view/6.1/chapter03/chapter03.html#materials-introduction
should be enough to get going.
Regards,
Matt.
