The first pair of devices are what we need to start a sensible boot of the new LFS system. I have no idea why we picked 600 and 666, but they work for this purpose.
The device nodes later on the page are _after_ we have mounted a tmpfs on /dev, which makes the previous devices no longer accessible to new processes. In a normal boot of the completed system, this is all handled by udev and the /etc/rc.d/init.d/udev bootscript.
