 Some people might prefer that you ask this on cross-lfs.

i could not find the support mailing list for cross lfs

cross-lfs@ - a single list for development and support. Accessible from http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/mail.html (the tenth list).

Which particular version of the CLFS book are you following (probably x86_64, but which date, and Multilib or Pure-64 ?

What are your current values for LFS_HOST and LFS_TARGET ?

Ken

the book is labeled : Version CLFS-SVN-20051212-x86_64-Multilib

i think i have fixed this already, however, it maybe wrong. The configure command in the book is

after looking at it I altered the value for --host to ${LFS_TARGET32}

That doesn't sound correct. We build some libraries as separate 32/64 versions, but multilib gcc and binutils support both architectures. Something earlier on has gone wrong. Perhaps you missed one of the patches, but I don't recognise the symptoms you reported.

Please review what you did, particularly for linux libc headers, binutils, and gcc, in both chapters 5 and 6. Also make sure you didn't accidentally follow a different architecture (x86_64-64 Pure64, or x86_64) at some point. Or perhaps you used LFS_TARGET32 for gcc or binutils earlier in the book ?

 Your bashrc looks reasonable.
