So that is where I should start talking a bit about myself, eh ? ;-) That is just an overview, for you to understand what I want from lfs, and why I love it, even if I'm not good enough to be "on my own". I discovered the open source philosophy about 5 years ago (at that time I was no more than a windows user). Of course I loved it, but love is not enough to start using a console, and script, and patch etc About 3 years ago I've been employed in a company for installing linux servers (running debian) abroad. While you're alone, 2000 km from any help from your company, well you have to learn quickly about your system to configure it quickly, and fix system configuration issue when they happen. About 2 years ago I installed (successfully, after 1 year of "try and fallback to redhat) a debian on my company laptop. At this very moment, I am following a network and system administration course, and now I can see what I've learned from the last 3 years : I'm best of my class, far away from the others. In fact this course is boring as we spent the first 2 months learning "unix user commands". You may understand that if I built successfully a lfs, this part was not really interesting. BTW, this is why I tried the lfs build (I have plenty of time for myself).
Now, what do I hope lfs will give me ? *knowledge*. I felt so in love with linux in general that I want to learn everything (some people spend their weekends tunning their car, watching football on tv, I spend all my time on a computer running linux). C-coding, shell-scripting, how the kernel works, what are donc by it, and the library above, how can I do this, and why can I do this with that software. I know, that will probably be a life long quest :-) and lfs is probably a good starting point. I am sorry for people who were absolutely not interested in my story, but I think that on the other hand it was useful to understand that I am as of today just an "experienced newbie" who is seeking advice on where to go from now.
