Well, not really. The instructions take place relative to your current
working directory, which, depending on how you view it, may or may not
be the gcc-build dir at that point.

The book tells you to run tests after you install GCC. In chapter 6 it
says something like 'Now that our final toolchain is in place...'. An
astute reader at this point might observe that we're done compiling and
installing GCC and conclude that it is safe to delete the directories in
use. In this case, that assumption is correct.

On the other hand, the book does not tell you exactly when to remove the
directories, other than 'when we're done with the package' which could
be interpreted as 'at the end of the page.' Many people will do as you
did and run the tests inside the gcc-build directory.

In any case, manual removal of those files ensures that we're not
leaving garbage about.
