Refer to Chapter 6, section of texinfo. There is a small paragraph
telling you to regenerate /usr/info/dir with your own hands at any
time you want. So you can just remove /usr/info/dir and regenerate it
after everything's done with:

cd /usr/share/info
rm dir
for f in *
do install-info $f dir 2>/dev/null
done
