Hello friends:

I'm returning to the list because I'm in trouble updating to LFS-6.4 my
central server (an IBM xSeries 206m) who is a LFS-6.2 with a patched
kernel 2.6.13.5. Yes, I know I shouldn't let you alone with that few
late newbies who DON'T READ THE BOOK, but I've had a lot of work this
late months (years?).

Well, this is my little story:

I've installed and worked LFS in production systems since LFS-5.1.1.
Thanks a lot to Gerard, Matthew, Jeremy, Ken, Dan, Bryan, Alexander and
Manuel and the community for this treasure.

I'm reading/following the brilliant 6.4 book.

I downloaded the wget list of packages and run wget with it. I didn't
see the download error (file not found) at the glibc-2.8-20080929 item
from ftp://sources.redhat.com/pub/glibc/snapshots/glibc-2.8-20080929.tar.bz2

I started the Chap.5 and I've completed the first steps (binutils, gcc,
linux api headers) when I detected the missing tarball
(glibc-2.8-20090929.tar.bz2).

I connected to sources.redhat.com and that tarball isn't there.

My error: I don't «google» for it and I don't seek in the list archives
in LFS website.

My ¿second error?: I went to http://www.gnu.org/software/libc and
downloaded the last version available (glibc-2.8-20081215)

I proceeed with the rest of Chap.5 without problems.

The questions:

What is the probability to have problems if I walk into the Chap. 6 with
glibc-2.8-20081215?

Must I install the glibc patches of the book in this case?

Must I download, like the book reads, glibc-2.8-20080929 from a mirror
site and walk across the Chap.5 again (I'm so lazy :-) )

Thanks a lot in advance.

Un abrazo.

J.C.
