Had you checked the mailing list archives, you'd have found we actually had discussed this about two weeks ago. But no matter - the short answer is that any newer copy of 2.6 should be good enough, although without looking at such a copy, I can't tell you if the patches are still needed. The easiest way to check would simply be to try and apply the patches to your copy - if they apply cleanly, they're still needed; otherwise you might need to look a bit closer at the changes being made. Alternatively, the 6.4 Errata page lists an alternative download location for the 2.8-20080929 snapshot, and the development book has an updated link.
