Yes, that's what I've been doing for years. If you're going to install PAM, there's no need to do things the LFS way, then re-install several packages afterwards. I can't remember if the BLFS instructions need modifying much (it's been a long time since I followed the books closely), but it shouldn't be too hard to make any necessary adaptation...
