Hi everybody,
Problem:
using lfs as user and in the directory $LFS/sources,
the instruction: mkdir -v ../binutils-build
gives error: mkdir: cannot create directory `../binutils-build':
Permission denied
Search:
I search the site giving the error message and got some links:
The last link says "chown lfs /mnt/lfs"
It solved the problem.
Suggested Solution:
Please fix 4.3 Additon the LFS User
Before or After the 2 chown statements add: chown -v lfs $LFS
or
Replace the 2 chown statements with one: chown -v -R lfs $LFS
Pls forward this msg to the right mailing list.
That is the wrong solution. The correct solution is to look more
carefully at the book - specifically, read page 5.3.
I might also note that the 2nd link you provided does in fact give the
right solution - you are expected to cd into the unpacked package's
soruce directory, *then* type the commands on the package's installation
page. This is what the "Important" note at the bottom of page 5.3 says
to do. Chowning $LFS is not needed if you have followed the book's
instructions.
