I generally use --target, lest there be any confusion where the code will finally run. I find the three-way cross-compiling confusing. Perhaps target defaults to host if it's not given, not sure. > For other packages, usually, CFLAGS and/or CC are enough. The book I got on the autotools says CFLAGS is _supposed_ to be a user variable. > try using CC="gcc -march=i686". This may work with GMP, too, but I am > not sure. Oooh, I like that one. I don't know whether it will work for configure. I can try it. > But AFAIK, there is no official preferred method for LFS. Thanks Pierre, I hadn't run into one myself. I'd like one method that can be consistent, and not create its own confusions. I still have to get a good make on gcc shortly! ;-) -- Paul Rogers [email protected] http://www.xprt.net/~pgrogers/ Rogers' Second Law: "Everything you do communicates."
