This probably wont help much, but I did a similar thing many years ago (around
2003) using the LFS V4.something book.

I pretty much followed the book, but configuring and compiling uclibc instead
of glibc, to build bintools and gcc.
The gcc instructions in that series were a bit different but I'm sure I
followed them pretty much exactly only changing the glibc-xxx parts of the
filenames to uclibc-yyy, and maybe missing out a couple of bits which related
to bits of uclibc I either didn't configure to build or weren't supported.
I used busybox for most of the commands, but again only configured the ones I
thought I would need, so I skipped most of the rest of the book, but I went
back to it for building the kernel and other bits and pieces.
