If your aim is learning about building Linux from scratch, as LFS does, there's nothing wrong with building 6.6, in my opinion. So you're building on a 64-bit CPU? LFS instructions and setup requirements are much more focused on 32-bit architectures. Another thing that may cause some difficulty is beginning with a Debian-based host system, say as compared to a RedHat-derived system. The two have gone in quite different directions for many years. LFS is perhaps a little closer to RedHat derivations.
