I'm back,
   I didn't get very far. :-) The headers installed with no problems but
when I ran configure for glicc it ended with the following lines:
checking whether __attribute__((visibility())) is supported... no
configure: error: compiler support for visibility attribute is required

This almost looks like more problems with gcc/g++.
Yes/No, what can I do about it? I am starting to think maybe I should not
be using UBUNTU as a host. Thoughts/suggestions.
