I'm not sure if you are in Chapter 5 or 6. Assuming Chapter 5. At this point, there is no difference between the standard and the systemd versions of the book.

When you added the lfs user, you should have done 'su - lfs'. What is the environment? That is, what is the output of 'set' when you are user lfs?
