For systemd, I do not know.  If you look at the development book,
there is a bit more information in section 7.10 - I suggest you look
 at the examples in sect ions 7.10.6 and 7.10.7.  If there is
nothing in dmesg, I suppose 'journalctl -r' will have something.

And check your kernel config (section 8.3.1 in the systemd 7.9 book).
