On the topic of building directly from Windows, has anyone tried
building through Cygwin? I imagine if you installed the extfs tools and
a cross-compiler, it could be done.

This would be useful because one would no longer need to take the
sometimes lengthy step of downloading and burning an ISO to a USB/CD,
and would also save an (obviously small) amount of money, as no disc
would be needed.
