I'm attempting to build LFS 8.1 using a working LFS/BLFS 8.0
installation. I receive Error 2 when compiling binutils-pass1 and several
grep errors such as the following :
checking for grep that handles long lines and -e... configure: error:
no acceptable grep could be found in /tools/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/xpg4/bin
No idea what xpg4 is, nor why it created a directory below /usr, but
"your system, your rules".
I also have no idea what xpg4 is. Its presence is not intentional to my
knowledge.
Anyway, where IS grep ? If you have which installed,
$ which grep
or else (assuming you are using bash)
$ type -pa grep
Grep is in /sbin.
If you think the symlink is the problem, something like
$ touch /tools/foo
$ ls -l /tools/foo /mnt/lfs/tools/fu $LFS/tools/fu
(as the lfs user)
Your foo suggestion displays foo in /lfs/tools but still nothing else. I
usually mount lfs in /lfs, but using /mnt/lfs doesn't fix the problem.
This problem throws me. Methinks I'll load a distribution ISO and
attempt building with that. My guess is I've done something funky with
my 8.0 installation although it's my working distribution and has shown
no problems to my knowledge.
