At first I had weird permission problems at every turn because my /etc/fstab

mounting my LFS partition with the noexec flag for some ridiculous reason.
That's probably because you had it mountable with the "user" option, which
automatically sets noexec.
It's a safety feature. You can always get round it by adding ",exec" to the
options in fstab.
Thanks Hazel, I already found that out by Googling but yeah you're spot on
about the 'user' option
having been set. I understand that the Kubuntu installer did this for my own
protection, but it's
something that's always been a pet peeve of mine.
The Kubuntu devs could have at least warned me that I wouldn't be able to
execute anything off that
partition, instead of assuming that it wouldn't matter. Better yet:*let me do whatever the heck I like on my own computer, since it is
actually MINE and not YOURS. *Warn me about the security implications
if you really think it's necessary, but*don't force your ridiculously-strict security policies on to me without
explaining them first, and ultimately giving ME the choice of how to
proceed.* Google and
Microsoft are also massive culprits of doing this and it*really* gets my goat
(if you couldn't already
tell haha! :P)
Anyway apologies for the rant, thanks for the advice and happy new year! :-)
