AFAIUI, gcov is very specific to GCC currently, but we cannot say for
sure that there doesn't exist some other compiler, maybe a derivative,
that implemented this option in this way. We could maybe issue a
warning if we had a mechanism for that.

But I'm sure we have a number of other gcc specific things that could
make use of such compiler specific warnings as well, so I'd rather
keep that out of this change, if you don't mind.
