Stray empty line in the log message?

I don't really understand the need for this patch. Which tests are
run on the host?

No tests are run on the host, but a number of tests do access data in
the samples, for comparing the decoded output to a reference file.

Maybe I'm just being dense as usual, but could you give an example?

E.g. this:

FATE_AAC += fate-aac-al04_44
fate-aac-al04_44: CMD = pcm -i $(TARGET_SAMPLES)/aac/al04_44.mp4
fate-aac-al04_44: REF = $(SAMPLES)/aac/al04_44.s16

This decodes al04_44.mp4 (on the remote), and afterwards compares the decoded output to al04_44.s16 (on the host, done in fate-run.sh).
