Yes, currently it is used in few places (e.g. avisynth, openh264) and some of its code could be factored. The problems of dlopen are: - We are trying to move away from global states completely, dlopen usages could add some (your patch adds the function pointers) - dlopen/dlclose could be a thread safety issue depending on the implementation even if it is not touching a global variable we create.
