We have already 50 public headers in libavutil, of those, at least 10 are related to the hashes and friends and I wouldn't add the 5 more that might be needed soon in that kind of shape. It is _quite_ annoying to use that part of libavutil (crypto, hashes and decompressors) and I'd rather spin those bits out and make them properly optional.
