I can go deep on this subject. The problem is indexing API: it is not present. Event with best container (mp4 fully indexed) there is no straight API to get frame number by packet or seek to frame number or which frames I can seek to etc. What I actually learned: index_entries often contains valid information for such purpose. BUT it is not exposed as public API and no guarantees are made.
