I can point out that cables communication [1] is designed to withstand
most of the threats discussed in this thread. For instance, it works
over Tor, and I doubt that Mexican drug cartels have access to this
network's global traffic analysis system, if such exists. But I am
skeptical wrt. ability of activists and journalists to rationally
assess the vulnerability of communication methods that they use, even
when provided with necessary information. Common sense and numerous
examples point to the contrary.
