Thanks for the links to the events; I'd not been aware of them. I probably 
won't be able to participate in the conferences--geography not being as pliable 
as electrons are transmissible--but I'd be interested to read your paper.

The question here was first asked about the inconceivability of the US having a 
pirate party. I had answered but didn't post; too long. But... I'm not a 
political scientist by training, but it occurs to me that in this case as in 
others, the US needs to be understood in terms of its vast size and economic 
depth. Change comes hard.

That said, the US does have a history of counter-parties, i.e., more or less 
ephemeral political parties constituted by dissatisfaction with economic and 
social values and belief in preserving the community under pressure. 

More can be written on this; it's a paper for an academic journal, I seem to 
have begun.
