More help working the fields produces higher yields, more children and grandchildren to support you in your old age (50??). These trends almost always reverse themselves on their own when economies improve. America had large families early on. But increased wealth stopped this. Even to a certain extent with Mormons and Catholics. If you really believe the world can't support more people, look down at the ground next time you are on a plane.
