Missouri remained in the U.S.A. but there was a part of MO in which
some people at the time claimed had seceded from the rest of MO and
claimed to have a separate governor and legislature at one point.
One thing that many don't seem to realize is that just prior to the
American Revolution part of Florida was a British colony. In the
1760's Spain traded the part of Florida under it's political
domination for Cuba with England. THus part of FL should have been
one of the original states. Andrew Johnson was from TN and was the
military governor of TN prior to becomming the VPOTUS. Ironically
the POTCS and POTUS were both born in Kentucky.
