Yes, we've been naive. We've expected that everyone will see the light and that, e.g. the Socialist Insecurity Abomination and income extortion would surely be eliminated by the time we were 25, and if not then, by the time we were 28... We were naive. We didn't know what sorts of advertising generate the most bang for the buck. We didn't know how much a successful campaign would cost, or how much it would cost us to get candidates on the ballot in light of Rep/Dem rigging of the election system. We blew what seemed to us like huge wads of cash and energy on ineffective campaigning. We've run people lacking credentials for offices that the electorate expects candidates to have certain kinds of credentials. And then when someone does have a little bit of a credential, we run him/her for president instead of state legislature or county commission, where, if we could all cooperate and pool resources, s/he'd have a decent chance to be elected. We've also compromised, backing iffy candidates we thought might generate more coverage from the media, backing candidates who had somewhat sort of libertarian leaning positions on 1 or 2 issues, etc., to our humiliation and long-term political detriment.
