[ ModeratorNote: While the topic of who iz or iz not
a REAL 'libertarian' would normally be off-topic in
this forum, an exception is made here for this
candidate for public office if any want to coment.

I spoke to the Secretary of State and the ROV and they said the
Republican candidate was issued papers the day before the election, but
he didn't get them back before the deadline. He won't be on the ballot.

This means we'll have 4 candidates in the 35th district race...

Maxine Waters - Democrat (25 year incumbant who won her last election in
2004 with 80.53% of the vote and 85.36% of the vote in 2000. A flaming
socialist who happens to be on the libertarian side of some social
issues like abortion, the war in Iraq, the Patriot Act, etc. but who is
economically retarded)

Carl McGill - Democrat (Former LAPD who ran as a Republican last time
and calls himself a "conservative democrat" as if there were such a
thing.) Got 11% of the Vote in 2000 as a Republican

Gordon Mego - American Independent (Has run in the last several
elections and represents a whacked out psycho party that wants to mix
church and state, use government force to prevent abortions and gay
marriage, etc.) Got 2.4% in 1996 (only 3rd party candidate), 1.66% in
2000, and 2.2% in 2004 (beat the Libertarian candidate Charles Tate by
13 votes)

Paul T. Ireland - True Blue Genuine Libertarian who, like all real
libertarians, is against the war in Iraq, against the Patriot Act,
Against all laws which mix church and state or prohibit consensual acts
like gay marriage, gambling, drug use or sales, polygamy, suicide, etc.
The ONLY candidate who would actually reduce the size, scope, cost, and
intrusiveness of government, and the most likely candidate to garner the
"conservative" vote (not that there is much of a conservative vote in
the 35th congressional district)

After the primary, Carl McGill will obviously be out of the race because
the incumbant will win. That will leave 3 of us. I'm fairly confident
in the fact that if I can get someone to host a debate with me, Maxine
Waters might accept the invitation.

As if that weren't good enough news, I also looked at the random drawing
to see which order we'd appear on the ballot in the primary and I will
go first (assuming they go by last name).

My main goal now is to try to raise money. I'm very inexperienced at
this and don't have any campaign staff so any actual help (other than a
handshake, advice, and well-wishes like the LP gives us) would be
appreciated. I want to seriously buy signs, bumper stickers, business
cards, magnets for the side of my car, and perhaps tri-fold pamphlets to
hand out. I'd also like to host a barbeque this summer with a mariachi
band so I can meet my hispanic constituents and talk about how I'm very
much against H.R. 4437 and how I think we should allow an unlimited
number of people from any country on earth to come here to seek
opportunity.

Buying these kinds of materials isn't cheap and I'm not wealthy. If I
could just get 250 people to give $25 or more, I'd have a decent shot of
shocking a lot of people with a very high percentage of the vote. My
race is unique because so many dislike Maxine Waters in my district
(including the police) and because there's no Republican running. We
could send a big message. It could be the largest percentage of the
vote a Libertarian has ever gotten in a federal partisan race within
California.
