The treaty did not exist in a vacuum. If not for the Communist revolution after the end of WWI, things would have been MUCH different. You stop when people decide that attacking the US is not in their best interests. That is the nature of defense. I will never give up defending my nation. That does not mean I agree with everything politicians do, but I do not believe in committing national suicide because I might hate the President.
