English is the common language spoken and writen in the U.S.A unless
you are in certain areas of Miami in which Spanish is the common
language. Learning English may not make one more American but given
that English is the common language one is able to communicate with
far more people in the U.S.A. if they learn to speak English.
Historically when immigrants cam to the U.S. and what became the
U.S.A. prior to 1776 they learned English. English has been the common
language because the Eastern section of what became the U.S.A. was
colonized by England. It is uncommon in the U.S.A. to walk into a
place of business and be greated by sommone who only speaks Dutch,
German, Manderin, Italian etc... The fact is that English is the
common language spoken and writen in the U.S.A. except for certain
areas of Miami and perhaps certain areas of TX and CA.
