Political office can be important in gaining liberty, I think local and
county office by far as the best chance of producing results but state
and federal office should not be totally
overlooked.
Still I think to many libertarians, Classic Liberals and other
pro market people so often over look what I think to be the most
effective means of promoting liberty and that is through markets and
mutual
aid.
The following partial qutoe from a April 2006 article in Health
Care News gives one example of one example of mutual aid and the market
place as an alternative to the coresive welfare state. The source of
the article is the February 23,2006 issue of the Wall Street Journal.

articles author is Greg Scandlen who is president of Consumers for
Health Care Choices, he can be reached at his email at

" The Amish and Mennoites in Lancaster County, PA. have arranged
for a fixed priced services from the local hospital, an example is
16,577 for hip replacement surgery, 3,200 for knee
arthroscopy.
How did they do this? By keeping insurance out of it, paying 50% of
the fee in cash at the time of admission, promising not to sue and
threating to take their business to Mexico if the hospital didn't
cooperate.
This latter was no idle threat. There are several medical facilties
in Mexico that have a bomming business taking care of Amish and
Mennoite
patients."
If you care to- do a search of medical tourism you will find
great hospitals in Latin America, Asia and Eastern Europe. It is not
just blue collar workers and call center employees that can be
outsourced, the Professional Associations and Business Associations
better wake up.
