To expand the analogy, the LP "church" should of course allow heathen
republicans or democrats into the sanctuary.  They might just learn
something.  And having more people in the pews makes us look stronger.  And
besides, we are all sinners.  We all drove to the church on government roads
in cars with government license plates, etc.

But to allow a heathen to lead the choir, well, that would be a sacrilege,
even if the song sounds good.  And to allow a heathen republican to preach
from the pulpit would be blasphemous (except when we condescendingly allow a
guest preacher from their church into the sanctuary for special occasions).
