At the time, as I have said before when this comes up, it certainly
was an option. I believe, that since Israel dis not have, as far as I
have seen, the overthrow of the US in mind, it was not neccesary. I
believe that serious sanctions, like using that event as a pretext to
cut off all cash aid to Israel, which they shouldn't be getting
anyway, would not have been a bad idea. It least a public admission
from Israel and restitution to the families of those killed would have
been appropriate.
One other thing to be pointed out which makes this significantly
different is that the Liberty inceident involved one country was is
nominally an ally. Islamofascism is a trans-national movement based
on the overthrow of ALL governments which do not accept Islam as their
state religion. That means all Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist,
and athiest peoples. Israel has never claimed they wanted to convert
or kill 5 billion people.
