Correction: A story on Sunday's Capital Region cover misquoted a state
Libertarian Party member who nominated himself for governor at the
party's convention Saturday. He also was misidentified. It was Sam
Sloan who said: "We used to be called the party of principle. We're
not anymore. Now we're the party of political expediency."
COLONIE -- Republican gubernatorial candidate William Weld was
endorsed Saturday by the state Libertarian Party, a tiny organization
with highly unorthodox beliefs, in a move that could impact New York
politics for years.
Weld, a former Massachusetts governor, said he'll run on the
Libertarian line in November even if he doesn't win the GOP line,
which former Assembly Minority Leader John Faso also seeks.
