After a few days with this group, and a lot of e-mails, I am starting to
like this group more and more. While I can understand, and do respect the
direction to not personally insult one another in this group, I am wondering why
the debates are getting so personal. One of the reasons I signed up for this
group, was because I find that libertarians tend to intellectually debate
politics better then most, if not all political groups.
Wikipedia's page on (_http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarian_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarian) ) Libertarianism says the following:
"Libertarianism is a political philosophy advocating that individuals should be free to
do whatever they wish with their person or property, as long as they do not
infringe on the same liberty of others."
Not looking to start heat here, but I tend to have my outspoken moments, and
while the above wikipedia statement is entirely open to interpretation of
course, seems to me that the best way to win a debate, or persuade through a
debate, is to stick with the debate, and let one's passion, knowledge and
charisma shine through, instead of pushing buttons, and trying to outdo one
another.
I really don't mind watching the back and forth banter (that's a me
thing-cause sometimes it can be funny and entertaining), and if it gets tideous, I
can always delete emails with a click of the mouse. But I do see some
potentially serious intellectual thinkers in here already, and look forward to
watching some of you shine beyond the personality conflicts.
Thanks for letting me ramble.
Scott
