'Sad' is what Tony Snowjob calls 2500 dead American troops....not
criminal, not tragic, not the waste of brave troops....'sad'.

Troops sent to stop Saddam from finishing his nuclear bomb before he
could hit us with it, and to get his huge stockpile of WMD's.

oops....we mean to bring freedom to the Iraqis out of the goodness of
Bush Rove Cheney and Rumsfeld's wrinkled little hearts.

The Iraqis need protection from the torture and killing being rained on
them by Saddam. Good thing huh...Saddam didn't have the clout we have to
do THOSE jobs right.

So 2500 brave troops, told they were defending us, are dead....well,
that number isn't accurate either. It means dead ON THE SPOT....the ones
that died after being evacuated aren't worthy of being included or
honored.

and the 100,000 to 250,000 Iraqi civilians that we snuffed? Wrong place
at the wrong time so phuck them I guess.

when will we walk these traitors to the dock????

Heckofa job Rumsfeld! You TOO Shrub!

White House laments 2,500 U.S. military deaths in Iraq

The number of U.S. military deaths in Iraq has reached 2,500 on
Thursday, which the White House described as a "sad benchmark."

"It's a number ... a sad benchmark," White House spokesman Tony Snow
said at a daily press briefing.

"The president (George W. Bush) would like the war to be over now," he
said, though Bush himself on Wednesday once again dismissed calls for
U.S. withdrawal and refused to give a timetable for success which would
allow U.S. troops to come home.

The new body count was announced by the Pentagon earlier in the day.

But it did not identify the 2,500th causality, in line with a U. S.
policy not to release details until 24 hours after the family has been
informed.

The news came at a time when the trend of U.S. military deaths in Iraq
moves upward again following a short period of decline.

Between November 2005 and March 2006, the number of U.S. military
fatalities in Iraq fell month-by-month, as insurgents seemed to focus
attacks on Iraqi security forces and civilians.

However, they jumped back above the average for April and May. The
Pentagon put the blame on a recent surge in rebel violence.

Attempting to soothe public uneasiness about the death toll, The
Pentagon noted that the death rate for U.S. troops is much lower than
those in the Vietnam or Korean wars, to which Iraq has sometimes been
compared.

In each of those conflicts more than 50,000 U.S. troops died, it said.

"It's important to remember that there is a mission, and there is a
greater good which sometimes necessitates tremendous sacrifice," said
U.S. Army Brig Gen. Carter Ham.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon never makes any official count on how many
common Iraqis have been killed in the war.

Iraq Body Count, a U.S.-British civilian watchdog, estimates that the
number of Iraqi civilians killed since the outset of the conflict ranges
between 38,355 and 42,747.

Other estimates put the number of civilian casualties much higher.

With the number of military and civilian deaths in Iraq continuing to
grow, Americans are increasingly negative about the war.

Domestic polls in the United States suggest opposition to America's
presence in Iraq is growing while support for Bush's handling of the war
is declining.
