It's not often people celebrate a monsoon <http://geography.asu.edu/aztc/monsoon.html#monsoon> , but it's happening in northern Arizona this cool, cloudy, thunderstormy day. With the forests well and truly dried out from years of below-average rain and snow, one day of rain isn't going to break the drought, but it's a real relief for people worried about fires burning near Sedona and the Grand Canyon.
Things have been a little slow because of travel for work and charity, but I was able to see many good friends in Texas and catch up on some reading when I wasn't sleeping on the plane. This week will be about the same, with the Libertarian national convention starting Friday. Next week will be short because of the 4th of July holiday, but we'll enjoy participating in several parades throughout the district. I got several interest-group questionnaires while I was traveling, so I'll be getting those posted soon. Since last week, I've posted my responses to the Sierra Club at http://www.schlosserforcongress.com/issues/questionnaires/Sierra_Club_2006_C ongress.php. Last week's op-ed column on the "none of the above" voting option http://www.schlosserforcongress.com/media-press/op-ed/060621_A_Real_Choice.p hp raised a few eyebrows, as will tomorrow's commentary on the Supreme Court's decision about Vermont's campaign contribution limits. Speaking of, campaign fundraising continues to go very well, thanks to you and your efforts to get others interested in the race. This will support both advertising and additional fundraising activities. Campaign finance reports for this quarter are due later this week and - while I won't have more than a million in the bank (as will some incumbents I might mention) - we'll benefit from expectations and historical comparisons. The action item for this week is to help develop an endorsements section on my Web site. Many of you have expressed kind and generous thoughts to me and to your friends on my behalf, and I'd like to share those with visitors who wonder if I'm up to the "say what I mean and mean what I say" challenge. If you're so inclined, please re: me with permission to present an anonymized version of a previous thought you've shared with me, or with something pithy that would motivate a complete stranger to think, "Hey - I could vote for that guy!" (Kind words from my mom do not count.) Blogging was a little light because of limited access to the Internet, but I did find time to put pen to paper about: * The politics of personal destruction http://www.schlosserforcongress.com/blog/blog.php?blog_id=33 * Mobility and education http://www.schlosserforcongress.com/blog/blog.php?blog_id=32 * The preference for action over talk http://www.schlosserforcongress.com/blog/blog.php?blog_id=31 I also spent some time today talking with PR Week <http://www.prweek.com/us/> magazine about using blogs in political campaigns, which should help expose more people to our campaign. Thanks for all your support, and have a great week leading up to the celebration of our country's independence. _____________________ David B.
