Some did back the union and I imagine like some whites in some areas
some of the Cherokee saw both the Union and the CSA has invading
enemies. The

Like Jimmy Steward said in the movie Shenedohah when the CSA came
around wanting his sons, he said the state did not provide a tit for
these boys when they were a baby. Afterwards when union buyers came
around wanting to buy his horses at their price, he told them they
were not for sale, the buyer said they would take them anyway and
Jimmy Steward and his sons started in on whiping the buyers butts,
one of the daughters came out with a gun and told the buyers to get
