Ian,

>
> INCOME TAX
> WITHHOLDING TAXES
> SELF-EMPLOYMENT TAXES
> ESTATE TAXES

> CAPITAL GAINS TAX
> ALTERNATIVE MINIMUM TAX

I can't "fail to observe" what isn't there to observe. Consolidation
of taxes into one form isn't tax elimination, it's tax consolidation.
Or, to quote a better writer than myself:

-----
Three rings for the elven kings under the sky,
Seven for the dwarf lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for mortal men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the land of Mordor where the shadows lie.

One ring to rule them all,
One ring to find them,
One ring to bring them all
and in the darkness bind them
In the land of Mordor
where the shadows lie.

The "Fair" Tax sites (particularly fairtax.org) are quite clear that
their goal is to make collection of taxes more "efficient," i.e. to
make it easier for government to get its pound of flesh.

It doesn't address why making us all TAX SLAVES _and_ WELFARE SLAVES
is "better."

How is instituting a new tax code "eliminating the tax code?"

And why do you think that the lobbyists won't agitate for special
treatment with the "Fair" Tax like they do the income tax? The "Fair"
Tax already exempts some things. There's no reason it can't exempt
other things -- and when the lobbyists are done, it will.

> ** Printing the public cost on every sales receipt.

Just like the public cost of income taxes is printed on every paycheck
and 1040, the cost of ever state and local sales tax is printed on
every sales receipt, etc. That hasn't worked to bring about tax
rebellion, so how will it magically do so when the tax in question is
the "Fair" Tax, which is linked to a self-preservation mechanism (the
largest welfare program in American history)?

> This is truly profound in that Joe Public will begin to understand

The Fair Tax is 30%, not 23%, if described in the same terms as every
other tax. This smoke-and-mirrors attempt to hide nearly a quarter of
it is a big credibility issue. If "Fair" Taxers are committed to lying
about the rate of the tax, what else could they be lying about?

> How is it that you can continue to say that the FairTax is worse than
> the current system? You see the pre-bate as "welfare." The pre-bate

... except that it's not linked to whether or not the tax IS spent, or
how much is spent.

Go back and read the article you're replying to. You're incorrect.

I agreee. The "Fair" Taxers should start being truthful about what
they support.
