Her name was Wild Mountain Honey. She was only sixteen months old. She was beautiful. She was pure love. She loved unconditionally. She loved to play games. She loved to run. Oh and boy did she like to bark. That is right -I said bark. Wild Mountain Honey was a female German Shepherd. (PICTURE OF HER) I know what your thinking; "Starving children, homeless, human rights violations, war crimes, and on, and on , and on! " "Jean, there is so much injustice in the world to discuss, there are so many more important world issues to discuss!" "Why would you decide to write a story about a puppy?" I will get to that. You can call him 0600344, or 0511246, or 0506798, or 0508153. These are the names the Cincinnati police department call him. He is a criminal. A felon to be exact. His crime he wrote "bad checks"! Now on a brisk March night, earlier this year, the Cincinnati police department decided that they would raid this criminal's home in the middle of the night. This is correct they paid eight officers overtime and administration fees to catch a wanted "bad check" writer. The costs to the community for the police's decision was three times that of the damage the felon's "bad check's" had caused. This night, like their previous six attempts, they did not catch him. Because, as they had been told six previous times, he no longer lived at this address. In the course of the police trespassing on the innocent home owner's property, they did not shut any of the multiple gates they had opened. In the morning, when the innocent home owner let Wild Mountain Honey out in the yard, the dog ran out into the neighborhood. When this was discovered, the entire neighborhood and local community members began an exhaustive search for the German Shepherd. The innocent home owner decided to call the police and asks for their assistance. Now, the innocent home owner knew the police did not normally assists in such matters but, they did leave the gate open, they were trespassing, it was a "police"dog. Surely they would help out. The innocent home owner did not expect them to send eight police officers like the previous night. Just one to help and maybe put it out over the "police radio" so other police officers could be on the look out. The Cincinnati Police Department refused to do anything! Why wouldn't they help? First off, doesn't everyone want to help find lost dogs. Second, they were responsible for this problem. Third, they had spent thousands of dollars the night before harassing the innocent home owner, surely they could put it out over the "police radio" for free! The Cincinnati Police Department refused to do anything! Police records indicate that in October of last year when Judge Doan's Beagle escaped the city sent three officer's to the scene. The previous year the police helped fellow officer Sundermann recover his dog and when prominent attorney (former assistant prosecutor) Fallen needed the police's help to retrieve his daughter's miniature boxer the Cincinnati Police Department was more than willing to assist! Why not this time? Our felon-the "bad check" writer-is a minority! The innocent home owner once allowed the "minority felon" to live at the house. Oh yes, Wild Mountain Honey was owned by a "minority criminal". Police records indicate that the night before in the same Cincinnati community there were twenty five other outstanding warrants. Fifteen of them for violent offenses. None of these were executed. None! None of these warrants were for minorities-None! Police records will indicate that on that same night, even though more than fifty percent of the warrants in the city are for "whites" or the "non-minority" population of the city, the only warrants executed were for "minorities"! Even if a warrant was outstanding for a violent crime, if it was for a "non-minority" it was ignored! I am sure there are well run police departments throughout the world. However, records indicate that the Cincinnati Police Department is not one of them. I am sure there are good men and women within the Cincinnati Police Department. However, records indicate they continue to look the other way! Under the direction of Colonel Thomas H. Streicher, Jr., the Cincinnati police continues to have the worse race relation statistics of any police department in the United States. It continues to be one of the few police departments in the United States to continue to have an increase in violent crime over the last decade. The police department has the highest percentage of officer's involved in the deaths of suspects in the United States and at the same time has never once found one of these officer's in the wrong! Never! Of course, none of these killings has ever involved a "non-minority"! None! Last year police records indicate that over two-hundred arrest of Cincinnati police officers for domestic violence, fifty arrest for drinking and driving, and twenty-five other arrest. None of these officers, none, were convicted! Who is holding this department accountable! They drive around all day in their police cars holding "criminals" accountable for their actions but, who is holding the Cincinnati Police department accountable? Is it Thomas Streicher? Obviously not! Is it the mayor, Mark Mallory? No! How about the citizens of Cincinnati? Recently there was a popular movie released that had a line of dialog; "People should not be afraid of it's government-government should be afraid of it's people." People of Cincinnati you should not fear your police department-your police department should fear you! Wild Mountain Honey was finally found by the innocent home owner. She was dead. She was less than a mile from her home. She had been struck by a vehicle. Many will say it was a horrible accident. Many will say yes the police acted negligently. Many will say the police were doing their job an the "bad check" writer is to blame. The facts say otherwise, the facts say the Cincinnati Police Department murdered that dog! Police records indicate on that bright March mid-day that two police cruisers wrote traffic tickets to motorists within fifty yards of that puppy's death within that same period. The police with "malice" trespassed and harassed the innocent home owner. They entered the property-they saw the dog. They did not leave one gate open they left them all open! They left these gates open knowing that dog was on the property! They were given an opportunity to help. The "police radio" alone would of costs no money and alerted the two cruisers who wrote the tickets (where she was hit) to the dog and the situation. They chose not to help. The Cincinnati Police Department murdered Wild Mountain Honey! I promised you when I started this article I would explain why I chose to write about the brief life of Wild Mountain Honey.
