umm....i dont think so. the only thing i can see on one site (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberalism) that speaks about liberals being involved in government goes like this;
--------------- "Many modern liberals advocate a greater degree of government interference in the free market, often in the form of anti- discrimination laws, civil service examinations, universal education, and progressive taxation. This philosophy frequently extends to a belief that the government should provide for a degree of general welfare, including benefits for the unemployed, housing for the homeless, and medical care for the sick. Such publicly-funded initiatives and interferences in the market are rejected by modern advocates of classical liberalism, which emphasizes free private enterprise, individual property rights and freedom of contract; classical liberals hold that economic inequality, as arising naturally from competition in the free market, does not justify the violation of private property rights. Liberalism rejected many foundational assumptions which dominated most earlier theories of government, such as the Divine Right of Kings, hereditary status, and established religion. Fundamental human rights that all liberals support include the right to life, liberty, and property. A broader use of the term liberalism is in the context of liberal democracy (see also constitutionalism). In this sense of the word, it refers to a democracy in which the powers of government are limited and the rights of citizens are legally defined; this applies to nearly all Western democracies, and therefore is not solely associated with liberal parties." ---------------- as u see, it is for the protection of "people" against corperations, which is one this our Founding Fathers were aware could happen too. so to me, being concerned for fellow humans, and their rights is being a liberal. we pay taxes to the government, and we should vote on how they use those taxes, they work for us, we elect them. for those who have never had the need to ask for help, will never understand how important it is that part of being human is caring for and helping other humans. this not only helps the individual to get "back on their feet" it helps the community they live in and the whole human race. btw, i do not really even like people, for the most part, i think the world is full of self centered assholes, just look around at commercialism. but, this does not stop me in believing that we all should have rights, equal, as the constitution says. the saddest moment in my life, when in comes to learning about america, is when i learned what the founding fathers did to the idians, well not all ofcourse, jefferson and others were quite fond of the indians....but u get the point. if the world is just full of self-centered asswipes and there are no people who give a hoot about others, not polyannas, than we truly are a race of beings that will just self destruct and people like ghandi, jesus, mlk, jfk, to name a few, though with their own demons, they spread a message of compassion and tried to pull people together, like bush says he is...which he is not.... so i am a liberal i am a patriot i am a human what else would i be? like bush or hitler? religious fundamentalists and dictators.... no thanks ! *************** > > > > believe it or not most liberals are big gov. who do want to take our > freedoms of gun owner ship away. >
