RICH PAUL: I would contact the Democratic Freedom Caucus. They would probably be as receptive to us as the Republican Liberty Caucus. Don't know the URLs for these organizations, but they're both in wikipedia, which is how I discovered them. Posted by: Rich Paul at March 4, 2007 04:45 PM ROB POWER: "Yoo's initial premise was that there have been precendents for using the Bill of Rights as toilet paper. He provided a chronological list: The Alien and Sedition Act, habeas corpus suspension during the Civil War, WWI, WWII, yada, yada, yada." I hope Barr quickly pointed out that the Supreme Court eventually ruled those cases unconstitutional. And that it's a sign of how politicized our current Supreme Court is that they have refused to act on all but the most egregious Bill of Rights violations. As to the liberal events where you'd be allowed in the door, I found this one on Google in less than a minute: https://secure.ourfuture.org/tba07/ It looks to be the anti-CPAC, and it's right there in D.C. I don't see any information online about vendor booths, so you'd probably have to call. And of course I'd be remiss in my job at Outright if I didn't mention: http://www.thetaskforce.org/events/creating_change Posted by: Rob Power at March 4, 2007 05:00 PM ME: DFC is at http://freedomdemocrats.org RLC is at http://rlc.org Neither is nearly as large as the LP. Quoting a confidential source is a good position to know: "We have two choices (1) change either of the two established parties, or (2) create an effective alternative to them. Neither choice is easy. The established parties are very good at absorbing insurgents who want to change their party from the inside. They let them speak but the primary system is an excellent way to kill off any insurgency. The primary is focused on the people committed to the party and therefore the voters are more likely to support the choice of the party leadership. This is made even more likely by the money and media; both will follow the leadership choice." Posted by: paul at March 4, 2007 05:19 PM ME AGAIN: Rob, thanks for the info on the Take Back America conference. I found the following info on their webpage. "Contact Us Contact Natalie Shear at 1-800-833-1354 x 101 for information. You can also email us at tba07 AT natalieshear.com". Posted by: paul at March 4, 2007 05:22 PM I also looked up the creating change conference. It says that it takes place in a different city every year, but not what city and dates it will be at this year. Another portion of the same website listed two events, one of which will be in DC. Upcoming Events 2007 DC Leadership Awards Washington, D.C. May 5, 2007 6:30 p.m. 10:00 p.m. Omni Shoreham Hotel Posted by: paul at March 4, 2007 05:25 PM Paul) If anyone knows of additional such events, please let me know. -p
