paul) It's very true that the US has this history. Steve>Because of this sordid history America finds itself in a > war with Muslim terrorists. paul) The Muslim terrorists, heavily funded by the US CIA and other clandestine US regime operations, and aided in their recruiting tremendously by US presence in the middle east, have articulated several demands, including the withdrawal of US forces in the middle east, an end to bombing and genocide-through-sanctions imposed by Americans on middle Eastern civilians, and an end to American regime military and economic aid to regimes which they oppose in the middle east (Israel, and also secular Arab/Turk/Muslim-lite regimes, which they consider heretic and apostate in their predominantly Muslim nations). Although it is a bad idea to give in to terrorists' demands, in this case these are policies the US should adopt anyway, and should have adopted all along. Implementing them would remove a major incentive to terrorism, as would an end to support (whether open or clandestine) for various factions there. Unfortunately this is not in the interests of the US regime, which seeks to forment Muslim radicalism as an excuse for more intervention abroad and greater terrorism/repression at home. Steve>For the Libertarian Party to deny the > reality of this war is to commit political suicide. Paul) I don't know anyone who denies the raelity of the war. We just have different perspectives on it. Steve>If the > Libertarian Party can develop a progressive plank on the war on > international terrorism, it can become a viable political party. Paul) Viable in what sense? It takes a lot more than platform planks to be a viable political party. Platform planks are one of the least important factors in real life political viability. I say this both as a libertarian political activist for over a decade, as well as formerly a consultant and operative for the Democrats specializing in dirty tricks and underhanded tactics (and no, I don't defend what all I did for the Democrats or consider it ethical in retrospect, nor can I discuss a lot of details). There's a great deal of difference among Libertarians as to what the plank should be, and it may sorted out in Denver. What plank would you propose? Steve> The > objective of this communication is to provide some clarity on this war. > The first thing that I want to clarify is the War in Iraq. The > war against Iraq has nothing to do with the war against Muslim > terrorists. Paul) Not true. The war on Muslim terrorists was one of several bogus excuses the Bush War Crime Family/NSGOP gang used to dupe Americans into supporting the war. Since succeeding in invading and occupying Iraq and accelerating the ongoing genocide against the people of Iraq, the USSA regime has created a great deal of incentive and propaganda value for Islamic radicals throughout the world which will be used to recruit terrorists for many years to come. Besides providing all this material and propaganda value aid to Islamic terrorists, there is significant (although disputed) evidence that the USSA regime is still to this day providing a great deal of military and financial aid to Islamic extremists, although no one is disputing the USSA regime did in fact provide money, weapons and training to these same extremists in the past. It is also well-known and acknowledged that the fascist USSA regime which falsely claims to represent the American people (thus inviting terrorist blowback against all of us for their evil deeds and those of their proxy regimes all over the world) is aiding pro-Iranian Islamic radical elements in Iraq while at the same time preparing troops, plans and propaganda for expanding the war into Iran. Steve>The United States has invaded and occupied the sovereign > nation of Iraq for the sole purpose of exploiting its natural > resourses. Paul) That is ONE of the reasons but hardly the SOLE reason. A big part of the reason is imperialism and the military-industrial complex itself. The manufacture of weapons is a huge business, in which America leads the world. War is good for this business. So are other regime-connected contracts such as construction (Halliburton). The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are causing to forment anti-American hatred and terrorism throughout the Muslim world. If the USSA regime can succeed into goading Islamic terrorism, it can use it as an excuse to widen the war and create a lot more profits for the regime-connected munitions and construction and other such corporations. It will also create the excuse for a lot more domestic repression such as the USA patriot acts, military commisison acts, REAL ID act, and other early building blocks of American Fascism. This in turn creates a lot of money to be made in Homeland Security contracting, and more power to government to spy on and imprison citizens (see: Total Information Awareness, Operation TIPS, etc). Halliburton has already been building concentration camps that can be used to imprison millions of Americans, FEMA drew up tactical plans for doing so that were declassified as part of the Iran-Contra investigation, and the Military Commissions Act has amde this legal while the REAL ID act makes it a lot easier to implement. Since this is true, with the right regime in > Washington we can make an equitable peace with the Iraqis. Paul)American regime propaganda does not draw the distinction, but both Islamic extremists (including those coming in from other countries) and Iraqi nationalists are fighting in Iraq. For the most part the US has been aiding the pro-Iranian, Shiite/extremist elements, but it may well be aiding both sides because more war equals more profits for regime-connected corporations, and more power for the bureaucracy. We know now, for example, that during the Iran-Iraq war the USSA regime provided aid to both sides, and the same thing is probably still happening. It's actually still the same war - Between Baathist and Shiite/Islamic extremist elements connected with Iran - but the battle lines have moved ito the center of Iraq with American help. To the extent that international Islamic extremist elements are in Iraq, it is mostly because American presence draws them there. Paul) While there are Islamic extremists who would love to subject all nations on earth into Islamic governments, they are also not retarded and know they have no way to take control of the American government. So-called "Christian" theocratic extremists allied with neocon neofascists are a much greater threat to American freedom. What the Islamists want to do is overthrow the secular regimes of the middle east such as Saudi Arabia and Egypt, and replace them with Islamic regimes. They also want a war with Israel. Since the American regime is providing aid to secular regimes which are their enemies in the middle east, and to Israel, and occupying the predominantly Islamic nations of Iraq and Afghanistan and carrying out genocide there, and (from their perspective) desecrating their holy land of Arabia with infidel troops, they have incentive to war against America by whatever means available - at the moment, terrorism. If Americans were not stirring the hornet's next and stopped regime interference in the middle east, they would no more consider it a present day tactical objective to war against or terrorize the Americans - whether regime or people - than Switzerland or the nations of Scandinavia. Steve>Does the 1st amendment guarantee the Islamo-Fascist > terrorists the right to take over America and establish an Islamic > theocracy? Paul) Why worry about something so ridiculous and far-fetched? How are 2% or so of Americans who are Muslim, most of whom are not Islamic extremists, going to take over the government? This is so silly it should be obvious to everyone it is just being used as a fear tactic excuse to get Americans to deflect their attention from the neocon-theocon alliance which is in fact taking control og American government. If people are preoccupied with this fake threat they can be tricked into giving up their money, rights, and lives to the real enemy.
