Regarding how important the topic of a seatbelt law is to
libertarians and non-libertarians, it depends on how you look at
it. There have been serious and lengthy discussions here. And
since the law directly affects most adults, it's on lots of their
minds. The debate is good for explaining libertarian principles
and resonates with many drivers.

------------------------

Most people I know will wear seatbelts even if the government
stops forcing them to do so. Insurance companies might require
it anyway.

It's still wrong for the government to force it upon people, but
there are far greater problems on people's minds. I complain to
LP members often that libertarians are really lousy are
prioritizing the issues that voters care about.

Voters are turned off at libertarian obsessions with drugs,
prostitution, gambling, guns, and the cult of the omnipotent
state. They want to hear about education, healthcare, the
economy, the war, energy, terrorism, and immigration. We have
excellent solutions to those.

I have been patient over the car seatbelt problem for years.
I'm still waiting for a "libertarian" to complaint about it.
