Nice response there Bruce but I do suggest that you read 'Lime Five' published by the Life Dynamics Institute, out of Texas, Plano, I think. There is strong evidence the abortion was safer when illegal.
Twenty two weeks? As I recall, embryology shows that there is brain activity far before then. We remain friendly opponents on this one. And I do mean friendly. You show some understanding of the pro-life position which is a far cry better than hard core pro-abortion righters such as Barack Hussein Obozo. Roderick T. Beaman,D.O. Board Certified Family Physician Politicians and government officials are like diapers. They should be changed often and for the same reasons. ________________________________ From: Bruce W. Cases of rape, Virtually non-existant, esp. with the advent of the 'morning after' pill (although there are some who feel that this counts as an abortion also). > 2. Incest. Again, pretty darned rare. Most pedophiles prefer pre-pubescent girls, those that prefer the older ones are usually savvy enough to use protection. And also the majority of 'incest' cases are not biological relatives, but 'mommy's boyfriend' or step-fathers. > 3. Deaths from illegal abortions Realistically there really weren't all that many, although the death/sterilization *rate* from illegal abortions is much much higher than legal ones, the absolute numbers were probably lower. > 4. Fetal abnormalities. This is the most legitimate, but many such fetuses spontaneously abort. The one that people don't like to talk about much is Downs. There are a lot of people who will abort a Downs baby, but they don't like to admit it. > There is no way that there were 52 million pregnancies that fell into > the above categories. Nope. Most abortions performed are so-called 'convenience' abortions of one kind or another. Of course there are other reasons not to outlaw abortion; I prefer to have much less distinct 'one law for the rich, one law for the poor' legislation. One of my mother's peers (mom's 83) had 2 or 3 abortions by the time she was 21 (she had some issues my grandfather came home from work one day and found her naked in his bed) because her family was wealthy enough to ship her off to Japan or Sweden where abortions were legal. Which brings me to the other reason why I don't want to see abortion outlawed. The Dems will shriek about how awful such a ban is when it is passed, but when they get control they won't repeal it, they'll try to make it more 'equitable' and try to 'close the loopholes'. Just look at the Patriot Act; Bush was the anti-Christ for pushing it through, and for the way he used it, but now that the Dems are in power, they are trying to expand it so that *they* can use it. As I've said before, I am okay with abortions performed pre-viability (I think 22 weeks is a good cutoff), but I think there should be strong medical reasons to perform one after that. Peace, Bruce
