We noticed this a few days ago ourselves.

Is there any chance that we could switch the examples to writing Exodus and 
recommend Paraview?

More people using Exodus would be good... plus it gets everyone one step closer 
to doing true parallel IO with Nemesis (which, I think we should promote going 
forward with ParallelMesh).

Plus Exodus has a couple of other nice features like being able to write 
multiple timesteps to the same file... and we already have the ability to do 
things like restart from Exodus.

Basically... Exodus covers more of the space that GMV used to cover.
