Are there plans to distribute a prebuilt "default" Makefile?  Users
could always generate there own, especially if they want out of tree
builds or have an odd system.

The reason I ask is because without a default Makefile, this changes
the baseline requirements a bit.  Users now need auto tools installed
which aren't always installed on systems by default.  OS X falls in
that category.
